Xelmo XPRESS FPGA SoC Platform
During Embedded Conference Scandinavia 2011, October 4-5 in Stockholm, Xelmo presents Xelmo Xpress. Xelmo Xpress is a platform concept for building FPGA system on chip solutions. A demonstration of a system running Altera Nios II soft processor on an Altera Cyclone IV FPGA, Linux OS with web server, manageable over Ethernet using SNMP, and a temperature sensor, can be seen in Xelmo's booth.
Small and medium sized businesses may immediately get the benefits of having a Lean embedded development platform and development environment as a foundation for product development, without having to spend the time and development efforts required to build it on their own. Xelmo Xpress includes architecture, blocks, API and methods for easy building and integration of hardware blocks, software drivers, and applications. It is built in line with Xelmo Xceed verification methodology and tools for integrated testing. Running Linux on FPGA using this architecture gives a huge amount of flexibility, a lot of possibilities and a vast number of building blocks and applications to leverage on.

The possibilities of freely moving functionality between hardware and software is ground breaking compared to traditional embedded systems development. The use of Xelmo Xceed API gives hardware and software designers a common ground of communication. They will simply work in parallel and use the same language from start for describing functionality and for writing test cases. The same test case may then be run either in hardware, in simulation, in software development environment, stand alone in target CPU, or as an operating system user space application on target. This is only one example of how Xelmo has focused not only on technology and functionality development, but also on Lean organization, development methodology, and product life cycle. Everything is scaleable from single units to large volume products and targeting both low cost and high end solutions.
